Diana Antunes was a dancer for several years, an experience that led her to develop a strong passion for visual aesthetics and the exploration of the human body through representation and movement. It was during her studies at Escola Superior de Dança, Lisbon’s national dance conservatory, that she decided to pursue cinema, graduating in Film from Lusófona University in Lisbon.

She later moved to London, where she worked as a filmmaker. Her work has been showcased at Somerset House and the Victoria & Albert Museum. In 2015, she undertook a film residency at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. She eventually returned to Lisbon, where she has since worked as a director across advertising, documentary, and fiction.

Her personal work has been shortlisted by Berlin Commercial, Directors Notes, and Booooooom, and selected for Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival. In 2023, her first television fiction project, O Pio dos Mochos, premiered on RTP1.

Diana has since focused on projects that give voice to marginalised communities, bringing an intimate and political perspective to her filmmaking. This is at the centre of her debut feature-length documentary, Bukra, currently in post-production. Set in Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine, and in development since 2018, the film explores cultural resistance and memory through an intimate portrait of a community navigating everyday life under occupation.

Bukra has been selected for several international film markets and industry programmes, including Docs in Progress at the Thessaloniki Film Festival and Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, as well as Indie Film Festival, Porto/Post/Doc, MEDIMED, and CEDOC.
